Youths Run British 10K to Support Schools
A group of Nepali youths is taking part in the British 10 K run to raise funds for three schools in Nepal.
This is the third year that members of the “Run for Change”, an enthusiastic team with members from different professions collaborating to support communities in Nepal, are taking part in the popular event.
British 10K RunnerThe team members include Niraj Rajbansi, Tripti Joshi, Paras Joshi, Alice Shrestha, Reena Sherchan, Amol Gurung, Balmukund Joshi, Pratima Joshi, Joshika Basnet, Rabin Sapkota, Chandra Devkota, Ram Budhathoki, Dipak Thapa, Lava Sharma, Shiva Saijun, Rambabu Thapaliya and Binod Shrestha.
In partnership with HeNN, the funds raised through sponsors and individual donations will go directly towards the cause and projects will be delivered as promised.
Current Projects
British 10K RunnerThis year, the “Run for Change” team has set a target to raise over 10,000 pounds to build three schools: Shree Manakot Lower Secondary School, Bajura; Shree Mugu Primary School, Kerabari, Morang; and Shree Thokarpa Secondary School, Sindhupalchowk.
“We are training to run the ASICS British 10K London Run – for the third year in a row – and raise funds mainly via sponsorships. Our running team this year has also increased in numbers and together, we feel confident in reaching this goal,” said Paras Joshi, coordinator of the team.
Information about the schools
Shree Manakot Lower Secondary School, Bajura:
British 10K Runner Shree Manakot Lower Secondary School is located in Bajura – they have 309 students currently attending the school. The aim is to raise £4000 to build additional building to improve capacity so more students can be enrolled.
Shree Mugu Primary School, Morang:
British 10K Runner Shree Mugu Primary School is located in Kerabari, Morang district. The school was established in 1983 and is now the buildings have deteriorated & needs renovation. We aim to match the local investment of £2,668 towards the £5,335 total cost of the project.
Shree Thokarpa Secondary School, Sindhupalchowk:
Shree Thokarpa Secondary School is located in Sindhupalchowk district, Thokarpa. Total of 350 students from surrounding areas attend here. This year they would like to upgrade to class 10 and this requires construction of an additional building to hold the upgraded class. We aim to raise £4,133 towards this project.
Past Projects
Last year, the “Run for Change” members raised £4,000 to help towards a HeNN project to renovate and construct the Sri Devi Lower Secondary School Bahaundanda in Jhapa district.
Similarly in 2008, the team raised £2,500 to support the HeNN Healthcare project to purchase and install much needed vital equipments at the Helping Hand Community Health Clinic in Phalebas, Parbat.
