Bhai-Bahini Sponsorship Programme
Bhai-Bahini Sponsorship Programme
(HeNN started the Bhai-Bahini programme on an experimental basis in 2006. At the time, the idea was to support just the education of the children in various shelters which were struggling for funds. However, given HeNN’s limited resources, it became difficult for us to keep track of all the children scattered in different shelters. Hence, HeNN suspended the programme after sponsoring 15 children in different shelters for two years. HeNN has decided to limit the future sponsorship programme to its own shelter being constructed at Dhulikhel, in the east of Kathmandu. We believe this will allow us to manage the programme more effectively. The information below gives you an idea of what Bhai-Bahini programme is all about. If you are interested in the programme, please send an email to admin@helpnepal.net. We will contact you as soon as we are ready to go ahead with the programme).
SPONSOR A NEPALI CHILD
Why?
Nepal does not have a social security system. Therefore, children without parents or family support are left on the street on their own. HeNN has decided to support some of such children without parental or family care with 100% of your donation.
HeNN works through a Network of volunteers that stretch across the world with a strong and dedicated team in Nepal. (It was for such dedication that HeNN received the NAREC AWARD for the year 2005.) Administrative expenses of HeNN are born by a separate Administrative Fund, which is entirely sponsored.
How?
HeNN has developed the Bhai-Bahini programme. Bhai-Bahini means ‘Brother and Sister’ in Nepali. Under the programme, your child would support a child until they become capable of supporting themselves financially, typically till age 17-18.
We envision your child and the sponsored child having a brotherly or sisterly relationship with each other as they grow and support each other. While your child (and you through your child) would support the child at the centre financially, your child would also learn and benefit from this experience and grow up to be a more caring and giving person. And thus a formation of a very menaningful Bhai-Bahini bond and relationship.
Bhai-Bahini programme will help your child
• Develop affinity with Nepal.
• Develop a sense of giving at an early age.
• See and show how an individual of a tender age can make a difference and nurture a “future”.
Where?*
Bhai-Bahinis in Nepal will be housed in the HELP NEPAL Balbalika Kendra at Dhulikhel, a scenic town in the outskirts of Kathmandu.
We seek committed sponsors to support the children.
Cost:
US$ 1,200 / annum (US$ 100 / month).
The cost is calculated on the basis of shelter’s total running expenses, which is divided by the total number of children to be housed in the shelter. The cost covers lodging, food, education, health care and extra curricular facilities.
However, the cost of sponsorship will reduce once we find donors to support the overheads of the shelter.
