HELP NEPAL Network Children’s Home
HELP NEPAL Network Children’s Home has been in operation since November 2014, and the shelter is currently taking care of 23 girls from kindergarten to grade 9.
The shelter was built by HELP NEPAL Network in cooperation with several donors, and was jointly inaugurated by CNN Hero Pushpa Basnet, Oz Bayldon from Music4Children, and shelter administrator and ‘mother’ of the girls, Punyawati Devi Ghale. The shelter initially started with 10 girls.
The Children’s Home was constructed on the land belonging to Panchakanya Basic School, a local public school in Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchowk. All the girls attend Panchakanya Basic School up to grade 8.
Apart from formal education, the shelter has also arranged for weekly art and music classes with regular outings.
Musician and HeNN supporter Oz Bayldon organized the World’s Longest Gig in London and the World’s Highest Gig just above Everest Base Camp to raise funds for the project. Franz Schmid and his organization, Aktion Unsere Spende, from Switzerland were also instrumental in starting this shelter.
