Progress Report from Aug 2003 to Jan 2004 Dear Member, Your charity, HELP NEPAL Network (HeNN), has now raised over £25,000. Full details of the fund's history, its activities and achievements, are available to view at our website, www.helpnepal.net (special thanks to Rachna Kayastha, who has re-designed it). Since we last wrote to you in July 2003, the following have been significant: PROJECTS: The re-building of the classrooms at Chanaute Primary School, Parbat, has been completed; the third and final phase of the Hepatitis B vaccination programme in Kapan village on the outskirts of Kathmandu was a big success with 95% follow-up rate -- 116 individual were vaccinated. New Education and Health projects are currently under consideration. EVENTS: HeNN celebrated its annual ‘HELP NEPAL International Fund Raising Day’ between 19 July and 03 August 2003 in Austria, Australia, Italy, USA and Nepal raising over £2,000. In Nepal, the occasion was also used to donate money to HeNN\' s two new projects: £2,000 to build a health post/hospital in remote Mugu district and further £2,000 to support the children affect by the recent violence in the country. The Mugu project will receive further £2,000 upon successful completion of the first phase of the project. DONATIONS: Anil Thapa, a student, participated in the British 10 Kilometre Open Road Race in July 2003 and raised £700 for HeNN; Yogendra Chhetri, a business owner in Surrey, and the organiser of ‘LIVE CONCERT 2003,’ donated £500. We have begun coin collection via containers located at restaurants around London as another means of fund raising. HeNN STAFF: In an effort to streamline HeNN’s growing responsibilities, HeNN-Nepal will now have a staffed office in Kathmandu, the cost of which is being sponsored. Hence, every penny you donate will still go directly to the targeted group. MEMBERSHIP: Members who have ceased regular contributions or whose lump sum donations have now \'lapsed\' -- please consider giving additional funds to the charity. Helping the poor and needy in Nepal continues to be possible only through your kindness. Please notify us of changes to your contact details either by phone, email, or use our Update Member Address page. MISCELLENIOUS: HeNN-Sweden has been established and, extensive meetings between HeNN-Australia President, Dr Raju Adhikari, and HeNN-Nepal team members in Kathmandu have produced important working guidelines for the smooth functioning of the Network. Yours sincerely, Madhusudan Kayastha General Secretary, HELP NEPAL Network - UK
