The current school building in on the bank of the river and next to the cremation center. The students suffer from the smoke from the cremation service. The students also have to put off with the cremation service that takes place in the river side. Moreover, the school is under the busy highway which is used by the heavy lorries carrying stones from the nearby stone mine. The lives of students are in great danger.

There is an urgent need to shift the school building from the current location to a safer and suitable location. HeNN has pledged Rs. 300,000 out of total Rs. 700,000 towards the cost of building a school building in the new location. The rest of the amount will be managed by the school and local participation.

With HeNN’s initiation, the school management has also successfully negotiated with the government bodies to acquire local land to construct the school building. The school will have enough space for the students and will shift away from the existing location.

In 2001, HeNN had provided Rs. 150,000 to construct the school building of Chanaute Primary School in Parbat District( Lukhu Deurali VDC ward no 5). The school is located in remote area, about 15 miles away from the district head quarter.

The latest report received from the school mentioned that the new building built with the help of HeNN has allowed the school to provide education to many children from 4 nearby villages. The school currently has students from grade one to five, with about 156 students from 130 families. The school also accommodates 24 students from minority group (Dalit).

The school has requested HeNN for further support to buy the furniture. A formal project proposal has been submitted and HeNN-USA team is coordinating it.

On Sunday 8th of August, HeNN chapters around the world held a first ever historic teleconference to discuss HeNN activities and share ideas. With HeNN expanding to numerous countries, the teleconference was an important opportunity to get to know each other personally, share each other’s passion and thoughts on HeNN and reflect on HeNN’s current accomplishments and future directions.
The teleconference was a grand success and HeNN plans to hold such a conference once a year.

Between 24th of July and 14th of August, HeNN celebrated its annual Help Nepal International Day in several cities around the world generating in total about US $ 14,000 for the Network’s current and future projects.

Various events were held in Boston, Sydney, Melbourne, London, Moscow, Venice, Vienna and Kathmandu. A small gathering was also held in Paris, where it was decided to launch HeNN-France as soon as possible.

HeNN likes to extend special thanks to Dhruba Basnet, the Producer and Director of The Killing Terraces and Navin Subba, the Producer and Director of Numafung for allowing the Network to screen their films for free to celebrate the occasion. The Killing Terraces was screened at the events held in London and Vienna and Numafung was screened in Boston.

HeNN would like to thank its countless supporters and well-wishers around the world, without whom it would have achieved nothing.

HeNN has so far raised nearly US $ 60,000 mainly from Nepalis and completed over a dozen projects in mostly remote parts of Nepal.

Please visit HeNN website http://www.helpnepal.net for HeNN’s past achievements and projects.

Anil Thapa from HeNN team in UK was the sole Nepali who completed the Reykjavik marathon on Saturday 21st August 2004. His reason for taking part in the marathon was not to win the medal for himself, rather to spread HeNN’s message and to raise some fund for HeNN projects. How noble!
Here is what he had to say after the grueling event:

“I enjoyed every second of it. On the track of 42 km, people from every household came outside, started playing their music, some started dancing, some even shouting Nepal, Nepal, Nepal(they saw my t-shirt advertising Help Nepal Network), to encourage runners. It was simply fantastic.”
“I could have finished my run earlier than 5hrs and 10 minutes but my shoes made me reduce my pace. Also my mission wasn't to compete with others and win the gold medal, it was to complete the race and raise money for those suffering from minimal needs back in Nepal.”

Well done Anil, we are all proud of your achievement and inspired by your effort.
Anyone wishing to contact him can do so via the website www.helpnepal.net.
